What the research actually says about peptides

Every claim on this site is labelled with the kind of study behind it and linked to its source. Where the evidence runs out, we say so.

Four ways into the research

The library holds the structured evidence, the areas group it by goal, the articles work through it, and the methodology explains how any of it was judged.

How to read an evidence label

Every claim carries the kind of study behind it and a link to that study. Eight tiers collapse into three bands, so you know what a claim rests on before you read it.

Read the full methodology

  • Human randomised trial

Measured in people under controlled conditions. The only kind of evidence that can show a substance works in humans.

    Strongest

    ExamplesRandomised trials, meta-analyses

  • Animal or in-vitro

Measured in animals, cells or tissue. Often where a promising idea starts, and frequently where it stops.

    Indirect

    ExamplesRodent models, cell studies

  • Mechanism or anecdote

A plausible biological story, or someone’s report. Neither is a measured outcome.

    Weakest

    ExamplesProposed mechanisms, self-reports

  • BPC-157

    BPC 157, PL-14736, PL 14736, PLD-116, PL-10, Bepecin, pentadecapeptide BPC 157

A 15-amino-acid fragment of a gastric juice protein, studied mostly in rats for tendon and muscle healing. No randomised trial has shown a benefit in people.

  • Retatrutide

    LY3437943, LY-3437943

Retatrutide is an investigational triple receptor agonist with published phase 3 trials. It is not approved by FDA or EMA, the two regulators checked.

  • TB-500

    TB500, TB 500, Ac-LKKTETQ, TB-500 acetate, thymosin beta-4 fragment 17-23

A seven-amino-acid fragment of thymosin beta-4, not the protein itself. No study has reported giving it to a human being.

  • Tirzepatide

    LY3298176, Mounjaro, Zepbound

Tirzepatide is a dual GIP and GLP-1 receptor agonist, approved in the US and the EU for type 2 diabetes and for weight management.

Human RCTApproved for a medical indicationweight management
